Hi everyone, this is Zihan Karim from Bangladesh. I live in a port city called Chittagong. I am currently working as an assistant professor at the institute of fine arts, University of Chittagong. And I 'm also a core member of "Jog art space," where we organize the experimental exhibitions on the street as well as workshops and seminars.

In this pandemic situation in Bangladesh, the infection of COVID-19 has been rising like the wave (Currently, 14000 people have been infected). Our medical testing system is not much equipped to identify the infection. According to the data I got from media, I assume that the number should be more. Government took place a lockdown of the city for 40 days. But in terms of the people’s livelihood, the lower-class people, especially those working for garments, food shops, markets, pullers, and beggers, need to go out for work. So, the lockdown seems to be slightly working only for the upper-middle and high-class, such as doctors or bankers.

Our artist communities are mostly trying to help the people in several ways, like raising money and giving food to the poor, trying to help the doctors by providing proper PPE. For example, in Dhaka, Some artist communities made the face-shields for doctors. Some art initiatives also create the online exhibition events relating to this pandemic situation.

I belong to a group consisting of my school friends for raising the fund for the poor communities. Four of our colleagues from my university also formed an initiative to start an interdisciplinary project on Facebook with our students, so that we can be connected with them through art. As the project is running, we are giving lectures, references, video links, etc. on Facebook. Also, we want to have the students think about global art change after this situation. We need to be more concerned about the eco-friendly materials and think about it more subjective approach.

Besides that, I am developing some ideas for my next project. Because I think this COVID 19 situation will change the art- literature- economic- human world. It creates the condition to rethink all these things. Because this is a situation made us all (no classification) stand on the same ground all over the world, .it never happened before. It feels like a new Renaissance is on the way.

Relating to my job, I am preparing some lectures for my class; even I don't know when the university will start. I'm attending some online courses, doing layouts, reading books, watching films, and doing family work. I am trying to survive this time in this way during the period.

Say hi to Kenji, and also mention that... I miss Fukuoka, Inani village, Itoshima, Udong at Inani, the road beside the river, Yatai, and his yellow car. I miss them. That was the first abroad journey I will never forget. Grateful to FAAM.

Warm wishes
Stay safe
