本シリーズでは、レジデンスプログラムや展覧会であじびに滞在したことのあるアーティストに､今住んでいる街の様子や自身の状況、また現地での芸術活動についての報告を紹介していきます。第2回目は、カンボジア在住のアーティスト、リム・ソクチャンリナさんからの現地報告です。

カンボジア在住のアーティスト、リム・ソクチャンリナは、近年のカンボジア社会の急激な変化に焦点を当てた作品を制作しています。2017年に当美術館でも開催した「サンシャワー」展では、国道の建設事業によって破壊された家々を撮影した《国道５号線》を出品しました。2019年3月1日〜31日まで当美術館「受入支援」事業にて福岡に滞在し、「福岡におけるカンボジア移民労働者」リサーチや、カンボジア料理ワークショップ、トークを行いました。

私は今、カンボジアのプノンペンにいます。パンデミックの初期、カンボジアの人々はパニック状態にありました。みんな（新型コロナウイルスを）怖がっていて、学校、バー、カラオケ、大きなイベント等は禁止されましたが、街や国は封鎖されませんでした。結婚式も行われていたようですが、出席者は多くなかったとのことです。パニックになった人々は、家にこもって食料を買いだめしていました。みんな、心配しつつも身の回りを清潔にしようと努めていました。
これまでのところ、状況は少しずつ良くなっていると思います。現在（注：４月29日時点）までの感染者数は122人ですが、ほとんどが外国人（主にヨーロッパの出身者）で、これまでに119人が回復しており入院も残りわずか、それ以降感染者数の増加は見られません。さらに１週間たつと、人々が外出や仕事、路上での運動をするようになってきました。街中や田舎への移動はこれまでのところ可能ですが、（感染に）気をつけて手を清潔に保ち、不要な外出は控えて家に留まるよう推奨されています。商業活動も継続していますが、以前ほどの活気はありません。
私もパニック状態でしたし、他のことや自分の仕事に集中することは難しかったです。新型コロナウイルスに関するニュースを聞いて、どのようにして自分自身や近しい人たちの身を守るかをずっと考えていましたが、ニュース自体が曖昧でした。カンボジアは家族単位での生活が基本ですし、私自身も家族と一緒に暮らしているので、国内、世界の状況がとても気がかりでした。もしカンボジアで集団発生が起きた場合、家族間やコミュニティ内でより感染が広がるでしょう。人々のなかには、清掃を心がけている人たちもいますが、見た限りでは清掃がきちんと行き渡っているとは言えません。もちろん、マスクする人たちもいますが、同時にしていない人たちもいます（特に現在は）。現在、人々は落ち着きを取り戻しつつあり、ウイルスにも慣れてきたように思えます。みんな、状況が良くなっていくこと、そしてワクチンが完成することを願っています。どうかうまくいきますように！
ちょうど数日前、2015年から取り組んでいる写真プロジェクト《国道５号線》を継続できるチャンスを得ることができました。
《国道5号線》の撮影について
私は、道路沿いにある真っ二つに切断されたり、壊された家々を撮影しています。これは、2015年に行なった撮影プロジェクトの続編になります。当時、中国からの支援を受けて進められていた道路建設事業（プノンペンからコンポンスプー州ウドン地区まで）が、住民に対する補償問題を引き起こしていました。この作品は、東京、森美術館と福岡アジア美術館の「サンシャワー」展で初めて展示されました。
現在、この事業、正確にはコンポンスプー州ウドン地区とバンテアイ・ミエンチェン県（タイとの国境）との区間を結ぶ道路建設は、JICA（国際協力機構）を通じた日本の支援を受けて進められています。基本的に、この事業はプノンペンからタイへと至るカンボジアの交通機関の発展を目的としたものですが、もちろん道路の周囲で起きるあらゆるものごとに影響を与えています。 家々は真っ二つになり、破壊されたりしています。私はこれらをカンボジアの開発の一部として記録しています。 それでも、人々はこの開発と補償に対して満足しているようです。この道路が完成すれば、あらゆる交通、ビジネス、生活がより便利になっていくことでしょう。

Cambodian-based artist Lim Sokchanlina’s work focuses on the rapid changes in Cambodian society in recent years. In the exhibition SUNSHOWER which was held at our museum in 2017, he also exhibited National Road Number 5, a photograph series of houses destroyed by the construction project of a national highway. From March 1 to 31, 2019, he stayed in Fukuoka as part of the museum's residence support program, conducting his research on Cambodian Migrant Workers in Fukuoka, a Cambodian cooking workshop and talk.

Yes, I am in panic as well. It is hard for me to focus on other things or my work but listen to news about the Covit-19 and how to protect myself and the people around me, but the news is not so clear. I am much concerned about local and international situations. I am so much worrying about the Cambodian as we are family-based, we live with family. It is breaking out, and it could easily affect family and community in Cambodia. Some Cambodian people are worrying and take of cleaning, but I see it not so seriously cleaning still. Yes, some wear masks, but some don’t, especially now. Everyone in Cambodia now is a bit calm and seem to get used to the virus. Everyone is waiting for the better and the vaccine. Figure cross for that!
A few days ago, I could manage to get an opportunity to continue my project (since 2015) in shooting photographs of the National Road Number 5.
The shooting of National Road Number 5: I shoot houses that were cut in half or destroyed along the way! It was a continuous project that I shot last time in 2015. At that time, the construction of this road from Phnom Penh to the Udong district in Kompong Speu Province was supported by China, and it caused many problems with compensation for people.
It was first exhibited in a group exhibition at Sunshower, Mori Art Museum Tokyo. Now, This project is supported by Japan via JICA, precisely, from the Udong district in Kompong Speu Province to Bantey Mean Chey Province (border to Thailand). It is aimed to develop Cambodia transportation from Phnom Penh to Thailand. Of course, it is affected by all things that happened nearby the road. Houses were cut in half or destroyed. I document that as a part of Cambodia development. People are happy to accept it and compensation! The road will make all transportation, business, and living easier.
